My approach to family photography is intentionally simple. I don’t want loud backgrounds, busy props, distracting clothing, or anything else competing for attention. I prefer clean, modern images where your family is the focus.
That same philosophy is why I encourage families to keep clothing simple too.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
You don’t need everyone in identical white shirts and jeans. Instead, choose colors and tones that work beautifully together.
Neutrals, soft earth tones, creams, blacks, whites, denim, and muted colors photograph beautifully because they complement the people in the photograph rather than competing with them.
The goal isn’t to create the perfect outfit.
The goal is to create a photograph where you notice your family first.
Avoid Anything Too Distracting
Large logos, very busy patterns, neon colors, and overly trendy pieces can pull your eye away from the people in an image.
I always come back to one question:
Will this still look beautiful hanging on your wall years from now?
That’s why I love simplicity.
Simple doesn’t mean boring. Simple gives an image room to breathe.
